The studio audience laughed when Portia noted that her grandmother was 99 at the time.

She continued, “And I said, ‘Yeah, you knew I lived with Ellen.”

And she said, ‘Yeah, and all this time I was afraid that lesbian was hitting on my granddaughter.’

“So she literally put her head in her hands for 20 seconds, 30 seconds, quiet, and I thought, ‘That’s it, I killed my grandmother,’ said Portia.

“I really thought I did. And she just looked at me, and she said, “Well, I love you just as much.”

Ellen then said it was “nice for someone her age” to change her mind about same-sex relationships.

The comedian explained how she and Portia placed her grandmother in the best home care facility they could find after actress Maggie’s mother was no longer able to care for her.
