But more megapixels don’t necessarily mean better image quality, as consistently evidenced by the Pixel series, and one leak has suggested that – in its current state – the new iPhone 14 Pro camera may be weak in low-light conditions compared to its predecessor.
The word about it comes from @LeaksApplePro (opens in a new tab)which has a decent history of predicting Apple’s moves. Here he talks about the experiences of a source who has hands-on experience with the pre-release iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max phones, so the findings should definitely be taken with a grain of salt, given they’ve been deleted twice.
Even so, the alleged first impressions are worth a full look.
– There have been some problems with the camera system. The new 48MP sensor is “the best in a smartphone if there’s enough light” but there is some optimization for the Night Mode. The source says it is worse than the 13 Pro in this area. There is a lot of noise.August 14, 2022
“There are some problems with the camera system,” writes the informant. “The new 48MP sensor is” best in a smartphone if there is enough light, “but there is some optimization for the Night Mode.
“The source says it’s worse than the 13 Pro in this area. There is a lot of noise. ”
As mentioned above, the camera’s performance doesn’t just come down to the strict hardware specs, which is just as good – because it will already be well and really finalized. Much of this boils down to the “secret sauce” added on the software side, so there is still time to fix these shortcomings – if they are indeed legitimate – to fix them.
“I’m a bit concerned about low-light shots, but I’m sure Apple can work on it before launch,” summarized @LeaksApplePro.
Almost everything else is, as you’d expect from a generational update, improved. In addition to best-in-class photography in good lighting, the source says the speakers offer “more base” [sic] and a clearer sound overall ”and which seems to significantly improve battery life.
“The source is not 100% sure, but apparently the battery life increases by a few hours on the Pro 14,” the leak writes. “There wasn’t enough time to test it properly, but that was my source’s impression.”
In terms of design, “the Pro Max feels like a brick (as always)” and the camera system in the Pro headphones is noticeably larger. “Good luck if you have MagSafe Duo,” says the leak. “It will probably work, but it looks terrible.”
-The display quality looks more or less the same as the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max. -The new camera system on the iPhone Pro looks massive. Good luck if you have MagSafe Duo. It will probably work, but it looks terrible. Especially if you plan on using a case.August 14, 2022
What about replacing the cutout? As with the notch, “you forget it’s there when you use your iPhone for a few minutes.” It does not add anything and is only apparently to clearly distinguish the Pro model, like an ostentatious, designer label.
That said, we all know what happened to the notch when it arrived on the iPhone X: tons of premium Android phones like Huawei, Google, and LG have arrived with their own notch. So it wouldn’t be completely surprising if Android rivals adopted something similar to this weird new design as their own premium calling card.
It is worth reiterating that these insights can be unbelievable and even completely fictional. But we don’t have to wait long to find out: the iPhone 14 series is expected to be released early next month along with the Apple Watch 8. With an initial order of 90 million units reported, Apple seems confident it will be another hit. but our full verdict will be available for reading in September.
