Apple plans to announce a new low-cost iPad and an updated iPad Pro with Apple’s M2 silicon silicon chip and possible MagSafe charging capabilities at an event scheduled for October this year, according to a ‘yeux1122’ account post on Korean Naver blog, citing sources.

The account has been a source of accurate information in the past, including revealing details about the fifth generation iPad Air and as yet unconfirmed details about the iPhone 14. The account also shared information that has not proven accurate, including a rumor about an “iPad mini Pro”.

The account claims in today’s post that the cheap iPad, which is expected to be significantly redesigned with flat edges and a larger display, will arrive with the new iPad Pro in October, following the iPhone 14 event next month.

The upcoming low-cost iPad is expected to feature an A14 Bionic chip, 5G, a larger display, and a USB-C port.

Bloomberg Mark Gurman reported last week that Apple has already started producing the iPhone 14 and Apple Watch Series 8 for September, adding that it expects Apple to hold two events this fall, the latter focusing on the iPad and Mac.

Apple announced an updated “iPad Pro” in April 2021 with a 12.9-inch mini-LED display and Apple’s M1 silicon chip. The premiere of the newer and more powerful “iPad Pro” with the “M2” is likely to coincide with the premiere of iPadOS 16, which is expected to arrive in October, not earlier in the fall with iOS 16. “iPadOS 16” includes more small improvements and features for other iPads M1 like improvements to Messages, Safari, and more.

For M-series iPads, Apple offers Stage Manager on “iPadOS 16” which allows users to run multiple applications in overlapping windows with support for an external display. In addition to the performance of the M2 and Stage Manager chip in “iPadOS 16”, earlier rumors suggested that the iPad Pro 2022 could take advantage of some form of MagSafe charging capability.
