Fortnite Season 4 Has Begun – Here’s Everything New, Including Map Changes, Battle Pass, Trailer and More

Update 09/18 below. This post was originally posted on September 16th.

After five hours of downtime, Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 4 begins. The servers are rebooted and players dash off the Battle Bus to fight the map with some fairly significant changes.

Season 4 is called Paradise, which is a strange season title about a mysterious, all-consuming substance called Chrome that takes place during Halloween. Here’s everything you need to know.

Chrome paradise

We’ll start with a story trailer that introduces us to a strange new metallic liquid called Chrome that has started to gobble up the map and the Seven, and introduces Brie Larson (Captain Marvel) as a paradigm:

Chrome will play a major role this season. You can change yourself and structures in Chrome and step through the walls of Chrome that you can create in enemy structures to be permeable.

Converting to Chrome makes you immune to fire and fall damage for a short time, and turns into a Chrome blob when sprinting. You can also air dash which allows you to pass through walls (so you can walk through a Chrome wall if you’re not Chrome, and any other structure if not are Chrome.

New Weapon + Returning Weapon

Two new weapons were introduced in Season 4. No wonder both are Chrome-based.

EvoChrome shotgun

The EvoChrome explosive rifle

Weapons returning and no vault:

  • Pistol with a sidearm
  • Main shotgun
  • A shotgun with a lever
  • Rapid-firing submachine gun
  • Submachine gun with a silencer
  • Hunter’s assault rifle
  • Hammer assault rifle
  • Designated Marksman Rifle (DMR)
  • Sniper hunter
  • Grenade
  • Skylight Jar
  • Harpoon gun
  • Shadowhunter (Exotic Weapon)
  • Dub (Exotic Weapon)
  • Boom Sniper Rifle (Exotic Weapon)
  • Boogie Bomb (not technically a gun, but sounds like one)
  • Impact grenade (also not technically a weapon, but here it is)

Sniper Rifles have also received a buff, making long play a lot more profitable this season:

  • Sniper hunter – increased damage multiplier and headshots
  • Hunting rifle – increased damage multiplier and headshots
  • Automatic sniper rifle – increased damage multiplier and headshots
  • Rifle with a lever – increased damage multiplier and headshots
  • Silencer sniper rifle – increased damage
  • Semi-automatic sniper rifle – increased damage
  • Rail gun – increased damage
  • Sniper rifle – increased damage
  • Heavy sniper rifle – Headshot multiplier increased
  • Storm Scout Sniper Rifle – Headshot multiplier increased
  • Explosive sniper rifle – increased damage from explosions

Season 4 Battle Pass

Six new skins join the Season 4 Battle Pass and one “Secret” skin. Read all about them and how to unlock them here. The Battle Pass once again includes 100 tiers of content to unlock with Battle Stars, plus hang gliders, sprays, emotes, pickaxes, and more.

New map + map changes

The Condo Canyon took to the air, becoming Cloudy apartment. You can use D-Launchers to launch (or build) onto floating platforms.

Another important new point of interest is Holy Herald:

Here’s what the new map looks like. You can see it got a bit autumn and we now have four quite different biomes, with winter snow, green fields, desert, and an autumn biome.

The game has been joined by new items like Chrome Splash that can transform you or the walls in Chrome. There are now also Crypts that can be unlocked with special keys found on the map in chests and so on. Low security vaults require one key; High Security Vaults require two and offer better loot. Once you find the key, the Vault locations will appear on the map. Unfortunately, the days when Epic Games made this kind of real challenge are long gone.

Epic Games also added a new slide kick action, Season 4 challenges, and various other gameplay and balance tweaks.

That’s almost it! Good luck with your Victory Royale, Padawani young! See you in paradise!

Original story

Fortnite Chapter 3, Season 3 lasts almost all summer. In fact, the season started on June 5, two weeks before the summer solstice. It ends just a few days before the official start of fall.

There have been some hints for a new season which is called Paradise – though it feels like a darkly ironic title. While the nickname Vibin in season 3 gave it a fun summer vibe, Paradise is a weird setting for what feels like a very spooky season.

A weird liquid chrome is present in each of these trailers, and it looks like our heroes – and the map – could get sucked underneath a sticky, oily thing.

We’ll find out more soon. The end of Season 3 is near and Season 4 is just around the corner. Here’s what you need to know.

Season 3 officially ends Sunday September 18 at around 2:00 AM ET. It is 23:00 on Saturday September 17 if you are using Pacific Time. It comes down to 6 a.m. UTC on Sunday 18th.

From there, we can usually expect three or four hours of downtime depending on the update, and of course you’ll have to update your game after Epic Games does its server-side magic.

Season 4 will begin as soon as the servers are back online, so you should be up and running on Sunday morning when you stand up with your pale eyes and bushy tails and ready to grab some Victory Royals.

We will be discussing the new Battle Pass, map changes, challenges, and everything else coming to Forbes Games. I still hope Epic brings some decent challenges and fun stuff like loading screens and hidden battle stars or coins, but I’m trying not to get any hope.

Good luck, young padawani. Follow me on Twitter or Facebook for more Fortnite Coverage from season 4.

Update No. 1

Here’s what we know about Chapter 3, Season 4 based on Leaks, Rumors, Trailers, and Epic Games Official Announcements.

Battle Pass skins

Gwen Stacy

We know for sure that there will be a Gwen Stacy Spider-Man skin that seems to have the cool, buggy cel-shading animation used in the miraculous Spider-Man: In the Spiderverse movie (one of my favorite Spidey movies of all time).

Gothic Miaukle

We also know that there is a Goth Meowscles skin that is perfect for Halloween, although the “muscles” in the name of the cat seem confusing at this point. Goth Meowscles is not harmonious in any sense of the word.

A third skin with chrome hands could also be part of the Battle Pass, thanks to what we saw in the trailers (though take it with a grain of salt, of course).

Finally, the popular streamer SypherPK will also receive its own Icon Series Skin, though it won’t be part of the Battle Pass. There is also a new scoped AR rifle or some kind of tactical rifle in the image of the new skin, so expect it to be one of the new weapons in Chapter 4, Season 4.

Other changes we can expect are tons of chrome on the map, including chrome tornadoes that may look more like monuments than moving weather events. We should also see some balloons floating on the map.

Update 22.00

The new patch 22.00 will arrive when the game goes down on Sunday, but at the time of writing, we don’t know the exact size of the update on each platform. I will update this post as soon as we know.

Live event

Unfortunately, there will be no live event to end Season 3 and start Season 4, which is definitely a big shame. Fortnite’s live events are some of the best and are a real highlight each season. We hope to have a huge live event to end Season 4 in a few months.
