IFixit repair service today shared an in-depth breakdown of the iPhone 14 Pro Max, giving you a closer look at the inside of the device. It’s worth noting that the break includes a photo of the plastic spacer that replaced the SIM card tray on the US model.

All four iPhone 14 models sold in the US no longer have a physical SIM tray and rely solely on digital eSIMs. The teardown confirms that Apple is not using the inner space freed by removing the tray for any other component or additional functionality, and instead fills the gap with a square piece of plastic. Outside of the US, all iPhone 14 models still have a SIM tray in this location.

As you can see in previous hands, iFixit has provided a close-up of the iPhone 14 Pro Max motherboard that comes with the faster A16 Bionic chip and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X65 modem that provides both 5G and satellite connectivity.

While the standard iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus can be opened on the back and have an easier-to-repair design with an easily removable display and rear glass panel, these design changes do not apply to the Pro models. From the breakdown, it appears that the iPhone 14 Pro Max still opens from the front and does not have a removable rear window. The internal design of the device is largely unchanged from the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

The lack of a removable rear window on iPhone 14 Pro models makes repairs more expensive. Without AppleCare +, Apple stores charge $ 499- $ 549 to repair a cracked rear window on iPhone 14 Pro models, compared to $ 169- $ 199 for standard iPhone 14 models.

iFixit shared an iPhone 14 crash earlier this week.
