Today’s best deals: Apple MacBook Air, Ring Fit Adventure, and more

Ars Technica

It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for the next Dealmaster. Our latest roster of the best technology deals from all over the internet includes Apple’s solid price tag with an M1 processor, the base version of which is currently discounted to $ 850 at Amazon. You should see an additional $ 100 discount notice on the Amazon listing page, with the full discount applied to your cart.

Aside from a few brief drops to $ 800 last year, this is the lowest price we monitored for this notebook version – which includes the base 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD storage – from a major retailer. The deal is $ 149 below Apple’s suggested retail price and around $ 90 below the average retail price we’ve seen online in recent months.
Note that this deal is for the MacBook Air, which was launched in 2020 and runs on an Apple M1 chip, not the model that came out earlier this year with an improved design and faster SoC M2. We generally recommend the latter option to most people on the market to buy a new MacBook today, as it offers a moderate performance boost (mostly on the graphics side), a brighter screen with a slightly larger surface (albeit with a “notch” design), a MagSafe connector, and a much nicer camera and audio system for video calls. Basic version that the notebook is also on sale today for $ 1,099, which is $ 100 less than Apple’s suggested retail price.
It’s still a good way above the current M1 MacBook Air offering price, and the older model remains a good buy for those looking for a competent Mac laptop for as little money as possible. Despite being several years old, the M1 chip is still able to handle web browsing, word processing and other daily tasks with little hassle. And while the thicker bezels and just two USB-C ports aren’t perfect, the notebook itself remains tough and light, with an excellent keyboard and trackpad, still a powerful display, and fantastic battery life that lasts over 14 hours on every charge in our tests.

Aside from the average port selection, the main drawbacks of the M1 Air are that it cannot connect to multiple external displays at once, and more importantly, its 720p webcam is bad. But if you want a Mac with the essentials on a (relative) budget, it’s a good value.

If you don’t need a new laptop, you will also find the almost low level of the popular training game in our rundown Fit Adventure Ring for Nintendo Switch, the total low level of the excellent action RPG game Horizon of the Forbidden West for PS4 and PS5 and a contract for digital copies of Ars’ favorite science fiction novel Hail Mary project up to $ 3. We also have lower-than-usual prices for Google Nest Hub smart displays, LG OLED TVs, well-proven SSDs, Anker charging devices, and more. You can check out our full offer list below.
