Don’t get me wrong, the products Apple may release this fall – the M2 Pro and Max upgrades to the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro, M2 and M2 Pro to the Mac mini, and the M2 to the iPad Pro – are very interesting in their own right. But the lack of an event, as well as the missing Mac Pro, isn’t the big 2022 highlight we’ve been hoping for.
But there’s always another year, and Gurman says 2023 could be a huge year for Apple. We know, we’ve heard it before, but 2023 could be one of those years like 1984, 1998 and 2007 that are memorable and legendary. Here are all the new Apple products we could see in 2023.
Mixed reality headset
It has long been said that augmented reality / virtual reality goggles (AR / VR or what is often referred to as “mixed reality”) may finally become reality next year. The latest rumors say it could be called Apple Reality, and rumors of how it will be built and how it will work has changed drastically over the years. (Have years really gone?) The latest rumors say it will have 8K displays, a dozen cameras, and an M2 processor.

But whatever it is called and how it works, it will be the product that will make 2023 a landmark year for Apple. It’s not a simple hardware accessory, it’s a new platform. Sure, other companies have made headsets before – some of these companies are betting on this – but Apple is known for adopting early innovations and better implementing them.

Mac Pro
Apple’s new silicon-based Mac Pro was expected this year, marking the end of the two-year chip launch. But following a big hint during the Mac Studio reveal in March, it looks like Apple is going to postpone its launch until 2023. Maybe it’s the old “supply chain problems”, maybe Apple has decided to take the time to re-evaluate the Mac Pro lineup and get it right, maybe it just wants to give it a huge spotlight. Whatever the reasons, the release of the Apple Watch Ultra is a good reminder that first-class, extreme products are important to demonstrate the advancement that Apple is capable of.
More than any other product to be launched in 2023, little is known about the new Mac Pro, but all eyes will be on Apple’s new workstation. Will it have an UltraFused M3 Ultra? Will it support PCIe cards? Will it be a tower or a ball? Whatever the new Mac Pro is, it will be the newest Mac ever made for years to come.

15-inch MacBook Air
Rumors of a larger MacBook Air began to hit the factory last year, with the possibility of a release before the end of 2022. This seems less likely now that Mark Gurman reported that Apple pushed it through 2023. While it will be interesting to see how this laptop is shaped, it will also be important to see what that means for the rest of Apple’s laptop lineup. Does this finally mean the end of the 13-inch MacBook Pro or will this model be discontinued?

HomePod with display
2023 will bring the birth of a new product and updates to Apple’s major product lines, so how about reviving the product? Apple may bring the HomePod back, but rumors of it have been rare. It will likely be a full speaker like the original HomePod, and it could be a dramatic redesign with the display.

There were also rumors of a HomePod like the Amazon Echo Show, a speaker and iPad combo that could be used as a smartphone controller, FaceTime station, digital access kiosk, and more. Gurman previously reported that this device will not be disclosed until 2024, but it certainly sounds like the perfect product for the 2023 holiday season.

14-inch iPad Pro
Apple hasn’t released the new size iPad Pro since the 12.9-inch iPad Pro came out in 2015. That is until 2023, when Mark Gurman reports that Apple will release the 14-inch iPad Pro, in line with the latest “bigger is better” product philosophy. This new size will be better suited to users “used to the 16-inch MacBook Pro” rumored to be, and we hope Apple has some surprises up its sleeve for the larger screen.
